Redmond’s automotive design and construction team transformed a former expo center into a 36,000 sf, state-of-the-art dealership for the Fox Valley Volkswagen team. The vacant building, measuring over 24,000 sf, sat on about 7 acres and was ideal for the owner’s goals. By identifying targeted cost savings items prior to the start of the design phase, it was determined that a significant cost reduction could be achieved by reusing a large portion of the existing expo center and by renovating the facility to reduce its size. An addition of 12,000 sf was also incorporated into the final design. By cutting the expo center’s square footage, the owners reduced their project costs and realized fixed operations savings.

Redmond’s designers collaborated with Volkswagen’s corporate design team and, as an advocate of the Fox Valley Volkswagen Automotive Group, Redmond’s design professionals worked with Volkswagen, negotiating with them to consider design modifications that would be both in compliance with brand standards and corporate operational requirements.

Redmond’s real estate consulting team was also an essential part of this project as they worked with the developer, owner, the City of St. Charles and Volkswagen Corporate to coordinate the many approvals needed to proceed with the project. Redmond’s site planners considered the potential future development of the neighboring parcel on the backside of the Fox Valley Group’s property, which, in turn, influenced the dealership’s landscaping and exterior lighting choices.

The Redmond Company recently finished a second project for the Fox Valley Auto Group: Fox Valley Volkswagen in Schaumburg, Illinois.
