Universal 1 Credit Union recognized that its 1960s-era service center and corporate office no longer reflected the collaborative culture or modern brand identity they’ve worked hard to build. In response, The Redmond Company reimagined the 23,000-sf Dayton, OH main office, transforming it into a vibrant branded environment designed to strengthen teamwork, communication, and member experience.

To support a wide range of group interactions, Redmond’s design team introduced flexible meeting spaces of multiple sizes throughout the building. At the heart of the facility is the “Central Hub,” a versatile destination that functions as a daily break room while easily expanding into a gathering space for larger meetings and events. Thoughtful lighting design—including cove lighting that guides members through the service center and linear lighting that transitions from ceiling to wall within the Hub—subtly defines zones and enhances the spatial flow.

Brand integration was woven into the design from the outset. Intuitive wayfinding reinforces Universal 1 Credit Union’s professional image, while the credit union’s logo is expressed architecturally in ceiling elements within both the service center and Central Hub, adding visual interest and strengthening brand presence.

Renovating a six-decade-old structure brought its share of challenges, including unforeseen conditions and code compliance updates. Through transparent communication with Dayton’s permitting authorities and the designated plan reviewer, the Redmond team navigated the approval process efficiently—resolving issues early and keeping the project on track.

This project showcases how intentional design and strategic branding can revitalize an aging facility, creating a workplace that reflects organizational values while elevating collaboration, efficiency, and the overall member experience.
